Dear Tops’l members,
As you will probably be aware, the latest Government guidance on COVID-19 allows, amongst other things, for a limited return to water based activities. Following that change, marinas and harbours are reopening for boat owners to access their boats.
In light of this new guidance, the Board are delighted to allow members to access both the Tops’l yachts at Port Solent to go sailing again!
As you would expect, there are restrictions on what you may do, in line with Government guidance as follows:
Ideally crew should be from a single household. Obviously, that restricts operations quite a bit. Ultimately, it’s down to the skipper to ensure that their crew will be able to practise appropriate social distancing as per government guidelines while on board, so one crew member not from the same household would be acceptable. Those wishing to sail as two crew should contact me, Steve Leniston, first.
Only plan to go out if wind forecast is F4 or less. If wind force increases while on the water, the skipper must ensure that they have sufficient resources to return the yacht to a safe mooring.
Day sailing only. It is not permitted to sleep on the yacht, either while out on the water or the night before sailing.
The crew are responsible for any additional expenses in returning the yacht to its home berth.
Consider a suitable gap between bookings at your discretion, minimum 72hrs recommended.
Clean the yacht thoroughly before leaving. Please pay particular attention to disinfecting all touchable surfaces.
If contemplating sailing just two crew, please contact me first for authorisation, as per the agreed policy.
These guidelines may change in the light of changing Government policy. The situation is somewhat fluid!
Here’s hoping that the weather remains kind to allow us to get back on the water on our lovely yachts; they’re in great condition and raring to go!
Best wishes and keep safe
