Update on Elfida’s Cruise to Brittany
Plans are now in place for Elfida’s spring passage to Brittany. The cruise will begin over Easter and will position the boat for members wishing to sail in the area throughout the summer.
Departure and Channel Crossing
Elfida is scheduled to leave Port Solent on the afternoon of Easter Sunday, 5 April. The plan is to make an overnight stop in the West Solent before crossing to Cherbourg on Monday. On arrival in Cherbourg, Schengen entry formalities will be completed before continuing the passage along the North Brittany coast.
Along the North Brittany Coast
From Cherbourg, the route will take Elfida westward towards Roscoff, where a partial crew change is arranged. After this, the cruise will continue around the Brittany peninsula towards Quiberon Bay and the River Vilaine.
Access to the River Vilaine
Although the Arzal lock is not scheduled to be back in operation until 30 April, arrangements have been made for Elfida to be lifted out and transferred into the river on 17 April. This will place her on her summer berth at La Roche‑Bernard from that weekend.
Summer Availability and Booking
There are still plenty of booking opportunities available for members throughout the summer. Details are on the website, and members are encouraged to check their diaries. While there is naturally a cost involved in travelling to the boat, this is offset by the benefits of the Passport Escale scheme. The scheme provides two consecutive free nights at almost all potential stopovers along the coast.
Apps Required for Passport Escale
To use Passport Escale, two apps will be needed:
- Pass-Ports (by Atout-Ports on Google Play or Apple App Store)
- Plaisance Morbihan (by Atout-Ports on Google Play or Apple App Store)
Elfida is registered under Steve’s name. Please contact him directly for the passcode.
Looking Ahead
This area offers excellent cruising opportunities, and it is hoped that many more members will take the chance to experience it this season.
