Carina’s Lazyjacks

Lazyjacks

Since the tear in the sailbag has been repaired we have taken the opportunity to install a new lazyjack system hopefully to avoid future tears. All thanks go to Jeff T, who initiated this idea, and to Steve B, who volunteered to help us all day in the stifling heat.

The lazyjack control line now has a pre-formed loop that, when engaged, drops the sailbag to a sailing setting. The end of the lazyjack line is secured at the base of the mast and should not need any adjusting.

Procedure

  1. Prior to raising the sail, undo the line from the cleat.
  2. Put the pre-formed loop over the cleat. (The sailbag could be neatly tied to the boom with a couple of sail ties.)
  3. Raise the sail.
  4. When you finish sailing, drop the sail into the bag.
  5. When tidying up and leaving the yacht, move the loop and set the lazyjack to make a neat finish.

This is not a final solution as some more small blocks are required from MSS that were out of stock on the day and, undoubtedly, we will refine the system. Stay tuned!
